What we treat

Dental implants
An implant replaces the root of a missing tooth with a titanium post placed into the jaw, and a crown on top of it. It is fixed, it does not come out at night, and it is the closest thing to the tooth you lost. Placing the post is surgery, which is why it is done here by a surgeon.
Wisdom tooth and surgical extraction
Wisdom teeth that have not come out straight, or whose roots sit close to the nerve, cannot be lifted out the ordinary way. Bone may need to be removed, or the tooth sectioned. This is the work most patients mention in their reviews.
Root canal treatment
A root canal is done when decay has reached the nerve inside the tooth and started causing pain, swelling or sensitivity. It clears the infection and saves the tooth instead of taking it out.
Gum treatment and scaling
Bleeding gums, bad breath and loose teeth usually start below the gum line. Deep cleaning and gum treatment are handled by Dr. Thinlay Choden Bhutia, who holds an MDS in Periodontics.
Braces and clear aligners
Three ways to straighten crooked or crowded teeth: ceramic braces, lingual braces fitted behind the teeth so they do not show, and clear aligners.
Crowns and veneers
A crown caps a tooth that is cracked or heavily filled. Veneers are thin facings bonded to the front teeth to close gaps and even out shape and colour.
Fillings and check-ups
A cavity filled early is a small job. Left alone it becomes a root canal. Routine check-ups and fillings for adults and children.
Oral and maxillofacial surgery
Surgery of the mouth, jaws and face. It is a separate postgraduate degree from general dentistry, and it is what the MDS after Dr. Pradhan's name means.

Bright Dental is a dental clinic at 6th Mile, Tadong, run by an oral and maxillofacial surgeon.
Most dental problems are ordinary and get treated the ordinary way: a filling, a scaling, a check-up. But some are not. An impacted wisdom tooth, a jaw that needs surgery, a missing tooth that needs an implant placed into bone. In much of Sikkim those cases get referred onward. Here they are treated in the same chair, by the same person who explained them to you.
The clinic runs its own OPG panoramic X-ray on site, so you are not sent elsewhere for a scan before treatment can start.

Will it hurt?
Treatment is done under local anaesthetic, so the procedure itself should not hurt. What most people are actually afraid of is not knowing what is about to happen, so you will be told what is wrong and what the options are before anything begins.
How long does an implant take?
It is done in stages. The titanium post goes into the jaw first, then it is left to fuse with the bone before the crown is fitted on top. The waiting is the longest part, not the treatment. Come in for a consultation and you will be given the timeline for your own case.
